The Complete 2025 Obby Build Guide
Obsidian mauler builds have evolved dramatically over the years, and in 2025, creating an optimized “obby” or obby risk fighter is easier, faster, and more structured than ever. Thanks to new Valamore content, expanded quest XP rewards, and clever progression routing, you can now build a fully functional obby account with minimal traditional training-relying instead on multi-questing, diaries, and precise XP management. For players looking to accelerate their progress even further, some choose to buy OSRS gold to quickly acquire essential gear or supplies, making it easier to achieve 42 Thieving, 34 Ranged, 30 Strength, and finally 55 Slayer with almost no direct combat at all.
Start With Multi-Questing: The Foundation of Your Build
Modern OSRS progression allows you to chain questlines together in a way that drastically minimizes travel time. This guide follows the philosophy of multi-questing-completing quests and diary tasks clustered by location so you never return to the same area twice. Properly executed, this saves hours and accelerates progress more than anything else.
Your first goal is to reach 42 Thieving, primarily to unlock Temple of Ikov. In earlier years, this meant cake stalls and multiple side quests. Today, the Valamore region offers three early-game quests that stack huge amounts of Thieving XP right away. Completing these will place you near level 42 instantly, setting you up for the next big requirement: early Ranged XP.
Building Ranged and Preparing for Chompies
After securing your Thieving base, begin your Ranged questing path, aiming to reach 34 Ranged entirely through quest XP. This allows you to use the ogre composite bow and cleanly route all future Ranged and Hitpoints XP into your Chompy kills. Not only does this optimize your XP to perfection, but it also contributes to useful cosmetics like the Chompy hat tiers.
Before you get into Chompies, complete Tourist Trap, which grants early Agility XP-critical for controlling your run energy during the many low-level segments of the build. While doing these quests, make use of recoil rings and safe-spotting, especially during fights like Sigmund in Death to the Dorgeshuun.
Unlocking Agility, More Thieving, and Slayer Prep
Your next major unlock is Icthlarin’s Little Helper, which yields both Thieving and Agility XP and pushes you closer to the requirements for Death on the Isle. A few laps of the Varrock Agility Course provide the remaining levels needed.
From here, your early Slayer setup begins. Complete X Marks the Spot, Client of Kourend, and Queen of Thieves to immediately lamp Slayer XP and push toward level 20. You’ll also use museum Kudos lamps and new Valamore quest rewards-especially Ethically Acquired Antiquities—to accelerate Slayer without training traditionally.
Jumping to 30 Strength and AFK Pumping
One of the most dramatic evolutions of the modern obby build is that you no longer need to train Strength at low levels. Completing Horror from the Deep and Shadow of the Storm grants enough XP to reach 30 Strength, unlocking the Blast Furnace pump.
By staggering client activity and interacting every 80 minutes, you can train Strength almost entirely AFK without violating any rules. This allows you to focus on questing, editing, or anything else while your account progresses passively.
Pushing Toward 48 Slayer Through Quests and Diaries
Your next target is 48 Slayer, the key requirement for the most difficult quests ahead. You’ll achieve this through a combination of:
· Fossil Island lamps
· Karamja diary lamp
· Tan’s Lair for 5k Slayer XP
· One Small Favour for gothix rests and progression
· Additional diaries completed during earlier quest routing
At this point, you've already finished half the work simply by questing efficiently.
Conquering the Perilous Moons and Heart of Darkness
With low HP and no Prayer, the Perilous Moons quest seems intimidating, but its mechanics are fully manageable with patience, food stacking, and proper handling of tornado and healing phases. The Blood Moon is the hardest, requiring death spawns, recoils, and precision movement, while the Eclipse Moon is comparatively simple.
The true challenge is the Heart of Darkness, particularly the Emoxley fight. With massive defenses, you’ll need bolt procs and perfect movement to prevail. However, even at incredibly low levels, the quest is fully doable following this routing.
Reaching 55 Slayer and Completing Your Obby Build
After finishing Shadows of Phandixtos for another 10k Slayer XP, your remaining lamps will carry you cleanly to 55 Slayer, unlocking the final requirement for the optimal obby risk fighter. From here, you're ready for PKing, Bounty Hunter, or joining an obby-exclusive clan, and for those looking to gear up quickly or save time, acquiring cheap OSRS gold can help secure essential supplies and equipment without slowing down your progression.
