The Ultimate Medium Spear & Hatchet Build Guide for New World: Aeternum

Feb-28-2026 PST Category: New World

The medium spear/hatchet build I've been running. Let me just start by saying this: this build is the most versatile build in the game.

You can run this in:

· Open World

· Dungeons

· The new Raid

· Outpost Rush

· 3v3s

· Literally everything

· If you're looking for something that can do all content at the best possible level, I think you'll find a lot of fun in this build. And if you're looking to gear up quickly, you can always buy New World Coins to speed up your progression and grab those BiS pieces faster. Let's dive in.

The Spear Build: Crowd Control & Burst Damage

Active Abilities

Ability

What It Does

Skewer

Grants Empower (damage amplification) on Critical Strike

Perforate

Applies Rend (reduces enemy armor) and Weaken (reduces enemy damage output)

Cyclone

Big burst damage, applies Slow, AND restores stamina per target hit

These three abilities together form the best spear build in the game. You're getting damage amplification, enemy debuffs, and stamina sustainability all in one kit.

Spear Passives – The Real Power

Here's where the build comes together:

· Precise Jabs: +5% light attack crit chance

· Deadly Reach: +10% critical chance

· Aggressive Maneuvers: CDR on dodges

· Refreshing Jabs: Every second hit of your light attack chain reduces cooldowns by 10%

· But the REAL magic is how much stamina we can conserve:

· Evasive Maneuvers: After a successful hit, your next dodge consumes 20% less stamina for 2 seconds

· Invigorating Crits: On critical hit, stamina regeneration rate increases by 30% for 3 seconds

· The result? You pretty much always have an abundance of stamina. You can dodge everything they throw at you while maintaining pressure.

Bonus synergy: When you successfully hit a target with an ability after dodging, it reduces the rest of your spear cooldowns by 20%. The rotation flows incredibly well.

The Hatchet Build: Single Target Domination

I don't think you'll ever find another PvP Hatchet tree that's better than this.

Active Abilities

Ability

Why We Take It

Berserk

Move speed, attack damage, grit, and all the other Berserk benefits

Torrent

Our main burst damage and applies Haste

Social Distance

20% Haste bonus if we hit a target with a debuff AND it Roots them – this is our gap closer

Key Passive Choices

Accumulated Power vs. Relentless Fury

· A lot of people take Relentless Fury (15% power after heavy attacks). I'm running Accumulated Power – increased power after light attacks. With our attack speed and rotation, this just feels better.

· Enraged Strikes: Abilities and heavy attacks deal 20% more BASE damage to targets below 30% health. This is why we execute so well.

· Against All Odds: Increase base damage by 10% for every enemy within 5 meters (max 5 targets). That's up to 50% base damage. In clump fights, this is absolutely insane.

· Defy Death: The key passive on the bottom left of the Hatchet tree. When you receive lethal damage, you avoid death. This has saved me more times than I can count.

Attributes & Stat Distribution

Here's exactly what I'm running:

· 100 Strength

· 150 Constitution

· 350 Dexterity

· Important: To hit 350 Dexterity, you need to pop a 48-stat food for either Dexterity or Constitution and adjust your gear accordingly. This is non-negotiable – the damage breakpoint at 350 Dex is huge.

Gear & Weapons

Armor

The armor I'm running is very basic at the moment. As soon as I get Best-in-Slot pieces or better gear, I'll update this build guide. Currently, I'm using gear I've found in the open world or looted from chests. The build works because of the weapon synergy and passives, not because of perfect armor rolls.

Weapons

Hatchet: Berserker's Axe

· Perks: Vicious + Penetrating Backstab

· Third Perk (lucky roll): Refreshing Torrent

· How to get it: Open your PvP track and hope you get lucky at one of the checkpoints. It's RNG, but worth the grind.

· Spear: "Stop Poking Me"

· How to get it: Complete the balloon event at The Well of Fortune in Cutlass Keys. It's a reliable farm – you can target this one.

Gameplay Tips & Rotation

Spear Rotation

1. Open with Cyclone into clumps for the slow and stamina recovery

2. Follow up with Perforate to stack Rend and Weaken

3. Use Skewer when you have crit chance up for the Empower

4. Dodge between abilities to trigger Aggressive Maneuvers CDR

Hatchet Execution

1. Use Social Distance to close gaps and apply root

2. Pop Berserk for speed and grit

3. Torrent for burst damage, especially on targets below 30%

4. Let Defy Death save you when you make a mistake

The Stamina Game

You'll almost never run out of stamina. The combination of Whirlwind Slash's stamina recovery, dodge animation, and Vitality Critical Strike means you can avoid almost any attack. If you're constantly dying, it's likely because you've forgotten to weave dodges between skills. If you want to easily create multiple characters without spending a lot of time grinding, check out New World Gold for sale on MMOEXP; it keeps your characters constantly in combat.

Why This Build Works in Every Content Type

Gap closing, burst, and survivability make you a threat
