Troubled Tortugans Quest Guide
The Troubled Tortugans quest takes you deep into the new seas of Old School RuneScape, unlocking valuable content including access to Great Conch Island, the Griffin Slayer monster and boss, 10,000 Sailing XP, 8,000 Slayer XP, and one quest point. While the quest is straightforward once you know the route, its mixture of sailing, tracking, repairs, and two boss fights can be overwhelming on a first attempt. And whether you’re preparing supplies the normal way or looking to buy OSRS gold to speed up your gearing process, this guide provides a clean, efficient walkthrough to ensure you sail through the quest with confidence.
Requirements and Recommended Gear
Before you begin, you must have completed Pandemonium. The skill requirements are:
· 51 Slayer
· 48 Construction
· 45 Sailing & 45 Hunter
· 40 Woodcutting
· 34 Crafting
A combat level of 60+ is recommended due to the level-235 Shellbane Griffin fight near the end. You should also have 50 Defence for granite armor and 43 Prayer for protection prayers.
Required Items
· Hammer
· Saw
· Best woodcutting axe
· A boat capable of reaching the Great Conch
· 23 free inventory slots at the start
Recommended Items
· Weight-reducing gear
· Stamina potion
· Melee armor + weapon (banked at the start)
· Granite body + legs (for weight requirement)
· Combat or super combat potion
· Prayer potion
· ~20 high-healing food
Your melee loadout must weigh at least 35 kg, and later, with the Tortugan shield, 45 kg to negate knockback attacks.
Reaching the Quest Start
Travel to the Pandemonium with your boat. If needed, speak to Junior Jim to recover your boat, keeping in mind this clears your cargo hold. Board your ship, navigate south through the Storm Temple-dodging lightning-then continue south past Dognose Island. Circle southeast, then turn west to reach a small island with a mooring point. Disembark here to begin.
Speak to the Injured Tortugan, accept the quest, then pick up a seaweed and shake a palm tree for a palm leaf. Combine these to make a makeshift bandage, then speak to the Tortugan again to earn Flooper’s trust.
Board your boat and sail southeast until you reach the Great Conch’s docks. Disembark and speak with Flooper and Elder Coral, then begin gathering materials.
Repairs Around the Village
Start by collecting six seashells along the beach and delivering them to Elder Rayleyy in the first house north of the docks. Receive a repair list, then gather six Tortugan scoots from the ground around the village.
Next, head west to the rare tree area and chop 10 Jatoba logs from Jatoba trees.
Return to the village and repair, in order:
· Damaged wall (northwest house exterior)
· Broken crate
· Fishing stool
· Second damaged wall
· Crafting stall
· Coconut crate
Once all repairs are complete, return to Elder Rayleyy.
First Boss - Level 95 Griffin
After speaking with the Elder, head northwest into the bank. Deposit your tools and weight-reducing gear, withdraw your melee setup, potions, and food.
Inspect the turtle monument outside and follow the large footprints west, then north, inspecting red plants, rockslides, and bushes whenever the trail ends. Eventually you'll reach a blocked cave—clear it with your axe.
Prepare your boosts, activate Protect from Melee, and enter to fight a level 95 griffin. If your gear weighs enough, its knockback will fail; otherwise, be prepared to absorb damage. Defeat the griffin and return to the Elder.
Final Boss – Shellbane Griffin
After reporting back, speak to Elder Blun to receive the Tortugan shield, worn in the cape slot and crucial for meeting the 45-kg weight requirement.
From the docks, board your ship and sail southeast to Little Pearl Island. When ready, disembark to trigger the fight.
The Shellbane Griffin uses:
1. Acid Spit – Move off the tile immediately.
2. Wind Tornadoes – Keep moving so gusts spawn separately; avoid their explosion radius.
3. Knockback – Prevented if wearing 45+ kg; otherwise deals ~20 damage.
Use Protect from Melee, dodge mechanics, and keep DPS pressure until it falls.
Speak to Elder Coral, return to your ship, and sail back to the Great Conch.
Quest Completion
Meet Elder Rayleyy once more on the island. After a final cutscene with Flooper-quest complete! You earn access to the Great Conch, the Griffin Slayer monster and boss, and 10,000 Sailing XP, 8,000 Slayer XP, and 1 quest point.
With the Troubled Tortugans quest complete, you’re now fully equipped to explore the Great Conch, take on the Griffin Slayer creatures, and enjoy the substantial Sailing and Slayer experience the journey provides. Despite its varied mechanics-from repairing a coastal village to tracking dangerous wildlife and battling two griffin threats-the quest becomes smooth and manageable with proper preparation and a clear plan. And whether you gathered your supplies the traditional way or used cheap OSRS gold to speed up your gearing process, this adventure marks an important step forward in your OSRS journey and sets the stage for even greater challenges across the open seas.
